West Somerset Tennis League Division 3
Venue. Minehead Lawn Tennis Club
Match Date. Thursday 11th May 2017
Teams. Minehead C v Bridgwater B

The first match for Minehead Tennis Club’s C Team was at home to Bridgwater B on Thursday evening, 11th May. The weather was overcast and damp, with some light rain during the match but not enough to interrupt play.

Play kicked off with the mixed pairings, with Minehead’s Simon Bamby-King and Alison Mothersdale taking on Rich Kippen and Penny Sperring and Rick Boxer and Angela Driver playing against Martyn Giles and Debbie Seazell. At the end of the mixed matches honours were even at 2 sets a piece, Simon and Alison having won 6-2 and 6-4 but Rick and Angela losing 5-7 and 6-3.

The outcome of the match now depended on the Mens and Ladies rubbers. Both matches were hard fought in tricky conditions with Minehead winning both the Mens and Ladies by the same margins, 6-3 and 6-4, the Ladies finishing just before our floodlight curfew at 9.30. In the final analysis Minehead won the overall match 6 sets to 2, a score which didn’t really reflect the closeness of the play.

Playing for Minehead were Rick Boxer (C), Simon Bamby-King, Alison Mothersdale and Angela Driver and for the Bridgwater, Rich Kippen (c), Martyn Giles, Penny Sperring and Debbie Seazell.
